Alongside the River Taff at the heart of Cardiff, Pontcanna is one of the more sought after city locations. Approach Pontcanna from Cathedral Road and you’ll soon find out why.
The spacious tree lined suburbs are home to an impressive range of period housing. Just off Cathedral Road, is Sophia Gardens: home to the Glamorgan County Cricket Club’s SWALEC Stadium, one of the livelier, new, test cricket venues, and the Welsh National Sports Centre with its swimming pool, squash courts and fitness classes.
To the north end of Cathedral Road, you find the heart of Pontcanna with a range of small specialist shops that reflect the homely appeal of village life in a city setting: fashionable cafés and bistro bars to while away hours with a newspaper over freshly roasted coffee, a specialist butcher, jewellery, fashion, gift shops, interior design, fine art, antiques and more. After the shops, you’ll find Llandaff Fields, a beautiful park with tennis courts, bowling green and children’s playground.
Set all this aside and Pontcanna’s biggest asset must be that it’s so close to the city centre. Here, you could live easily without a car. Walk or cycle down Pontcanna Fields’ avenue of lime trees or take the Taff Trail along the banks of the river and you’ll be in the city centre within minutes.
